Workshop topic:
The workshop explores situations where a non-trivial geometry of space and time is emergent for (low energy) excitations in quantum matter. This can be collective excitations in interacting Bose-Einstein condensates, like phonons or spin waves, but also electronic excitations in condensed matter systems like graphene. Also light in photonic crystals or optical waveguides can be an example. Also from a theoretical point of view emergent spacetime geometries are very interesting and closely connected to quantum fields in curved spacetime.
The workshop aims to find out:
We want to bring together people working on such different fields of modern physics as ultracold atoms, quantum materials, synthetic quantum systems, optics, quantum field theory, gravitation, and physical cosmology. We want to identify opportunities and possibilities for research and progress in physics in the coming years.
Travel costs and accomodation:
We have (limited) funding to cover the costs for accommodation in Jena, as well as travel costs. Please indicate your preferred travel dates on the registration form.
