Description

Over the past decades quantum optics and intense laser driven processes made tremendous progress, while their development mainly remained disconnected. This is because the majority of the interactions in the strong-field regime have been successfully described by semi-classical methods treating the electromagnetic field classically. However, recent progress in combining quantum optics and intense laser driven processes have shown promising insights for the generation of non-classical states of light. This includes the generation of high photon number optical cat states, squeezed states of light from the infrared to the ultraviolet regime, and entangled states over a wider range of frequency modes. In this talk, I will introduce the underlying physical picture of strong field quantum optics, and provide an overview of this rapidly evolving field. I will focus on the generation on non-classical states of light and discuss potential applications.
